Aileen Sherman Memorial Fundraiser

My name is Ryan Bloch and I am 15 years old. Aileen Sherman was my grandma and an amazing person and inspiration. She showed us through example what it meant to be kind, generous and supportive. In 2013, she was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, mucosal melanoma. Her battle lasted 3 years. Throughout those years of difficult treatments, my grandma continued her life as if her cancer was a mere distraction. She would take me, my sister and cousins on special birthday get-away vacations.

“My grandma was amazing as I watched her, even from her hospital bed, mentor and advise families on how to understand and cope with a loved one who developed Alzheimer’s Disease.”

She helped start a family business that aided people with hearing disabilities. She put her passion for helping others to work by volunteering her time to organizations including Alzheimer’s Association, Grandparents Against Autism, Goodwill and UCI Mind Institute. My grandma was amazing as I watched her, even from her hospital bed, mentor and advise families on how to understand and cope with a loved one who developed Alzheimer’s Disease. When she left us in 2015, some of those amazing families created the Aileen Sherman Memorial Fund in her honor.

I want to carry on her mission to help others. She showed me that by putting your passion to a purpose you can make someone’s life better. I’m just one kid, but if I can find a way to stop cancer from taking someone else’s loved one, I want to make that happen. So each year I create an event where I can encourage others to join the fun and play for a good cause.

This year I chose to partner with American Cancer Society / Pediatric Cancer Research and Game Changer Charity to create this awesome GamersBeatCancer Fortnite event. I love this partnership because we are not only supporting rare cancer research, but also helping kids who are in the hospital today battling for their lives, by providing gaming, events and so much more. If I could leave you with one thing, even if gaming isn’t your passion, find out what is and put it to a good cause. In the meantime, join me and GamersBeatCancer to make a difference today.

Our Mission

GameChanger Charity and American Cancer Society join forces to fight cancer.

Every 2 minutes around the globe a child is diagnosed with cancer. In the U.S. cancer is the second leading cause of deaths among children aged 1 to 14 years, surpassed only by accidents. Through advanced research and clinical trials, we have an opportunity to accelerate the fight against pediatric cancers.

ACS was aware of the incredible work that GCC was doing in hospitals for children using technology, gaming and innovation to ease the pain and boredom for those going through treatment. Together we can do more for a mission that both organizations are so passionate about.
